Thanks Rob, Yes, so many shared memories. I drove out of Boston on the Southeast Expressway the evening of 9/11, asking myself, was I somehow so comforted by the bellies of those big planes that headed into Logan as I headed out of town, that tonight I actually missed them? The sad waste of everything with Iraq, with Afghanistan, with so much more -- heartbreaking to recall. Unfortunately, this time I'm completely paralyzed with anxiety. I feel like we are approaching a potential abyss. I have been able to love my way through a lot of challenges in my life. I pray I still can, but this feels very different - very threatening and grim.

Thanks, Jeanne. One memory I have of how things unfolded is that many of us flew little American flags from our car antennas (remember those?) and how that patriotic mood faded as those flags became frayed from highway driving ... and then disappeared.

I share your sense of foreboding, but I am also hopeful -- hopeful that young people come out in force Nov. 5, because each succeeding generation seems more enlightened about the connection between open heartedness and meaningfulness. They're part of that moral arc of the universe bending toward justice -- they are the bending. I'm hoping the bump in voter registration that occurred translates to voting for a continued bending.
